AYUSHMAN BHARAT
Ayushman Bharat (AB) is India’s national endeavor to transform its healthcare delivery by shifting from a selective model to one that offers a comprehensive range of services, including preventive, promotive, curative, rehabilitative, and palliative care. This mission is anchored by two key components. The first component is the creation of Health & Wellness Centres (HWCs), aiming to establish 1,50,000 such facilities to deliver universal and free Comprehensive Primary Health Care (CPHC). These centres expand services to include screening for non-communicable diseases (NCDs), mental health, and trauma care, alongside the provision of free essential drugs and diagnostics, all delivered close to where people live. The second, complementary component is the Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (PM-JAY). This scheme offers significant financial protection by providing a health insurance cover of Rs. 5 lakhs per family annually to over 10 crore poor and vulnerable families, ensuring they have cashless access to secondary and tertiary care hospitalization without suffering catastrophic out-of-pocket expenditure.
